What is the minimum height for a pool fence in Florida?
The minimum height is 48 inches measured above grade on the side away from the pool. If the grade slopes, the measurement is taken from the highest point within 36 inches of the barrier. We always build to 54 inches when there is any question about grade variation, which gives you a margin that inspectors appreciate.
Do pool gates have to be self closing and self latching?
Yes. Every gate providing access to the pool area must be self closing and self latching. The latch release must be mounted at least 54 inches above grade, or on the pool side of the gate at least 3 inches below the top, with no openings larger than 1/2 inch within 18 inches of the latch.
